Uniformed police officers and local leaders stood side by side with family and friends of PC Fiona Bone and PC Nicola Hughes at a memorial service, marking the 10th anniversary of the officers being killed on duty by fugitive Dale Cregan.
PC Hughes, 23, from Saddleworth, and PC Bone, 32, from Sale, were shot dead by Cregan on September 18 2012. Cregan had been on the run, after murdering gangland rivals Mark Short and his father David.
He lured the two officers to an address in Mottram in Longdendale, Tameside, with a bogus report of a burglary. He shot them dead and threw a grenade on their bodies.

During a memorial service outside Hyde Police Station this morning (Sunday September 18) wreaths were laid and minute's silence was held at 10.53am - the exact time PC Bone and PC Hughes were murdered. Along with the officers' families and former colleagues, Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham was in attendance, as well and Ashton-under-Lyne MP and Deputy Labour Leader Angela Rayner.
Before the memorial service, Chief Superintendent Phil Davies said: "Although 10 years has past, the emotion and grief is still felt on anniversaries such as this and reminds us of the dangerous situations officers face on a daily basis.
"On Sunday, we will come together with Nicola and Fiona’s families and honoured guests, to reflect on the passing of a decade since they made the ultimate sacrifice for the oath they took as police officers.
"Nicola and Fiona’s essence and presence remain with us and is tangibly felt by those who knew and worked with them, but also their colleagues who have joined the GMP family after their passing."

A series of bombshell articles revealed that Harvey Weinstein harassed and assaulted dozens of women for decades and used his power to bully them into silence. Weinstein’s fall was the fuse the ignited a revolution. That upheaval turned things around for the better, and culture has been forever changed. And yet, the entertainment industry still has a long way to go to untangle a complex web of decades of bad behavior. In an interesting turn of events, the fight for change that began nearly five years ago with those initial stories will be litigated once again in courtrooms across America in the coming weeks.
