Natasha Lyonne Champions Her ‘Community of Women,’ From Amy Poehler to Maya Rudolph, at Variety’s Power of Women Event

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Natasha Lyonne is enjoying something of a career renaissance, and she’s attributing the undeniable success to her female friendships. As she took the stage at Variety‘s annual Power of Women event — on her birthday, no less — she toasted to her “community of women,” among them Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph, who have cheered on each other’s rise in Hollywood. “It’s pretty eccentric to see how much we grow up together in this business and how meaningful it is to stick together along that ride,” she said on Tuesday afternoon at midtown Manhattan’s The Grill. Lyonne joked that she and her “dear pal” Rudolph started the production company Animal Pictures to “ensure we’d have time to hang out with each other,” and that she co-created “Russian Doll” as an excuse to “get existential with my friend and co-creator Amy Poehler.”

Watch Taylor Swift give ‘the 1’ its ‘Eras’ tour debut

Taylor Swift switched up the setlist on the latest stop of her current ‘Eras’ tour, including ‘the 1’ in the ‘folklore’ segment of the show for the first time. Before kicking off the performance of the 2020 album’s opening track at a show in Arlington, Texas, Swift said: “You think you can come prepared? You think you can just scroll and know the setlist?” ‘the 1’ was played in place of ‘invisible string’, which had typically been played to start the ‘folklore’ segment of the three-and-a-quarter-hour show.Until then, the only segment of the ‘Eras’ tour setlist that has regularly changed has been the ‘surprise song’ segment, where Swift plays a different acoustic song or two every night of the tour. At the first show in Arlington, the surprise songs were ‘Sad Beautiful Tragic’ from 2012’s ‘Red’ and ‘Ours’ from 2010’s ‘Speak Now’.

Gwyneth Paltrow ski trial highlights Taylor Swift, Tom Brady and Oprah

Taylor Swift embarked on The Eras Tour two weeks ago, but she was one of the many celebrity names invoked in Gwyneth Paltrow's ski collision trial in Park City, Utah. The 50-year-old Goop lifestyle brand founder took the stand Friday to defend herself in a lawsuit filed by Terry Sanderson who claimed Gwyneth not only crashed into him causing traumatic injuries, but also skied away after the crash on the slopes at the Deer Valley ski resort in 2016.  He initially sued Paltrow for $3.1 million, but a judge dismissed the claim and removed the exclusive resort and a ski instructor from the lawsuit before Sanderson proceeded with the $300,000 suit.

‘Tetris’ Review: Taron Egerton Drama Uses Retro Nostalgia to Re-Imagine the True Story of Classic Game

There’s a promising and even semi-adult comedy at the heart of “Tetris,” an otherwise corny action-adventure based on the real-life story of how the iconic 1980s computer and video game was licensed outside of Russia. Most of the plot of “Tetris” concerns the political maneuvering and corporate espionage required to smuggle “Tetris,” the iconic brick-laying puzzle game, out of Moscow and away from greedy businessmen. The lead protagonist of “Tetris” (the movie) also happens to be its main hero, an uncomplicated leading man whose personal motives don’t matter so much as the vague and never credibly represented virtues of “Tetris” (the game).
