Mother Of George Floyd’s 6-Year-Old Daughter Speaks Out: ‘This Is What Those Officers Took’

On June 1, hundreds of people protesting the killing of George Floyd spilled out into Philadelphia's Vine Street Expressway and, in a confrontation with the police, were hit with tear gas and rubber bullets. G-Buck, the Philadelphia-based electronic producer born Greg Washington, was there in the midst of it all.

Gianna, the six-year-old daughter of  George Floyd and Roxie Washington. It was announced that Texas Southern University has offered the young girl a full-ride scholarship, should she choose to attend the school.

George Floyd has been laid to rest. On Tuesday, a private funeral service was held for George at the Fountain of Praise Church in his hometown of Houston, Texas.

The mother of George Floyd's daughter spoke out on Tuesday for the first time since Floyd's death in an attempt to get «everybody to know that this is what those officers took.» In a short, tearful statement alongside the daughter she had with Floyd, Roxie Washington mourned the loss of Floyd as a father to 6-year-old Gianna. 

When George Floyd died while being restrained by police officer Derek Chauvin despite his desperate pleas, George also left behind his six-year-old daughter, Gianna, and her mother Roxie Washington. For the first time in the week since this tragedy happened, the mourning mother and daughter emerged in front of reporters on June 2.

George Floyd, who died after being forcibly pinned down by police officers in Minneapolis, USA, will be remembered much closer to home tonight.

Jamie Foxx is encouraging others to take action and demand justice in order to enact real change. Following the fatal arrest of George Floyd, which has sparked outrage and protests across the nation, the 52-year-old actor joined thousands of peaceful protestors outside San Francisco's City Hall on Monday to honor the Minneapolis man, and countless other black lives that have been lost due to police brutality.
