John Hopewell Chief International Correspondent Álvaro Morte, immortalized by his performance as the Professor in “Money Heist,” has inked a multi-year producing deal with Sony Pictures Television through his Madrid-based production company 300 Pistolas, which he founded alongside Blanca Clemente. The accord sees 300 Pistolas, a theater company, making the transition into producing scripted TV, with Morte developing English-language scripted series exclusively with SPT, which he and Clemente will serve on as producers via 300 Pistolas. Morte and Clemente will have access to SPT’s development teams. SPT will serve as exclusive production and distribution partner to any projects produced under the deal, SPT confirmed Wednesday.
Before “Money Heist,” Morte was best known for his role over 2014-17 in Spanish daily TV series “The Secret of Puente Viejo,” and was respected for 300 Pistolas, where he directed free versions of Spanish classics. Acclaimed for his performance in “Money Heist,” the series brought Morte worldwide fame which has allowed him to immerse himself in international series. Via a secondary role in psychological thriller “The Head,” Morte proved his acting chops in English; a supporting role in “The Wheel of Time,” co-produced by SPT for Amazon’s Prime Video, gave him a taste of high-end high-fantasy TV; Morte’s performance as Sebastián Elcano in Simon West’s RTVE/ZDF Studios’ “Boundless,” though shot in Spanish, was an introduction to a high-end Euro public broadcaster epic historical entertainment. William Earl Deepak Chopra’s Beacon Media has pacted with Mexico City-based Pirexia Films to develop Spanish-language content derived from Chopra’s vast IP library. The partners plan to develop a range of Spanish-language properties, but the initial focus will be on Chopra books, starting with “The 13th Disciple,” “The Third Jesus” and “Jesus: A Story of Enlightenment.” The intent is to develop scripted, unscripted and documentary projects. Filming is expected to begin later this year in Mexico and Spain. Pirexia was co-founded in 2015 by filmmaker José Manuel Cravioto, known for his work on the Univision/Netflix drama “El Chapo.”
John Hopewell Chief International Correspondent Lionel Messi and Sony Music Entertainment will team with the Canary Islands’ Atlantis Animation to bring an animated series on the Argentine soccer megastar several steps closer to reality. The deal sees Atlantis producing as a service company a CG animated series trailer inspired by Messi himself. Sony Music’s Premium Content Division, which is producing in partnership with Leo Messi Management, is overseeing the development and distribution of the series. Based out of Tenerife, Atlantis Animation is now in full production of the trailer. Targeting all audiences, the series “will immerse viewers in the epic adventures of a young Messi overcoming titanic challenges as he navigates the vibrant world of video games,” a written statement said.

It’s his first major move after he was ousted. The deal is non-exclusive, and projects under the agreement will be backed by Rice via A24’s banking relationships. Audible will be the exclusive home for the scripted and unscripted audio originals from Ashé Audio, formed by Davis and Julius Tennon’s JuVee Productions and Maurício Mota and Katie Mota’s Wise Entertainment. The slate will include original scripted stories, audio theater and self-development programs, with an eye toward “raising up fresh voices” through projects that feature writers, actors and up-and-coming talent.
