Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief South Korean entertainment leader CJ ENM has invested in U.S.-based virtual reality concert platform AmazeVR. The move is intended to enhance the group’s presence in the metaverse and expand opportunities for K-Pop and unscripted content. AmazeVR claims to be the first and only company using its exclusive and proprietary technology, to capture hyper-real 9K+ live-action footage of artists performing. This gives fans front-row seats in 3D stage environments, making VR concerts easily scalable and faster to produce. AmazeVR has previously put on concerts with Megan Thee Stallion and worked with Korean girl group Aespa on real world and virtual concerts. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has finally arrived, and it’s created quite a bit of buzz thus far. Unfortunately, not all of that attention has been positive, as the show has received racist backlash from a number of viewers. Some have taken issue with the fact that the show cast people of color to play an elf and dwarf.
EXCLUSIVE: Lana Condor (To All the Boys films), Desmin Borges (The Time Traveler’s Wife) and Callan Mulvey (The Gray Man) have signed on to star alongside Chase Stokes in Monarch Media’s thriller Valiant One, which goes into production in Vancouver later this month.
Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power star Ismael Cruz Córdova has united with original Lord Of The Rings film trilogy star Orlando Bloom for a selfie. The pair, who play Elves Arondir and Legolas respectively in the Tolkien universe, came together with a message of solidarity, Bloom sharing a picture on Instagram with the word “mellon” – the Elvish word for “friend”.Replying in the comments, Córdova wrote: “Big love mellon”.A post shared by Orlando Bloom (@orlandobloom)The post comes after a few of the original trilogy stars – namely Dominic Monaghan, Elijah Wood, Billy Boyd and Sean Astin – showed solidarity with the new show’s cast against racist abuse targeted at the series’ diverse actors. The former three were shown wearing T-shirts with elf ears in varying skin tones, and elf tongue translated as “you are all welcome here.” Astin shared a post wearing a hat with the same. The cast of the show has also condemned the “the relentless racism, threats, harassment and abuse” received, and have highlighted the “fellowship” inherent in Tolkien’s universe, noting that “Middle-earth is not all white” and that “BIPOC belong in Middle-earth and are here to stay.”“Tolkien created a world which, by definition, is multi-cultural.
Daniel D'Addario Chief TV Critic The story of Alexis Haines’ entanglement with a circle of Los Angeles-area home invaders has been told multiple times over: In the reporting of Nancy Jo Sales, who profiled her for Vanity Fair in 2010; on her own reality show, “Pretty Wild,” which aired on E! in 2010; and in Sofia Coppola’s 2013 film “The Bling Ring,” based on Sales’ work. Now, Haines (formerly Alexis Neiers), along with former associate Nick Norgo (formerly Nick Prugo), attempts to set the record straight in the Netflix documentary series “The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist.” The three-episode series sheds little light, and bulks out its running time with idle musings on fame that feel warmed over from the early 2010s. It’s not that Haines’ and Norgo’s stories, told with both respective parties’ permission in this doc, don’t have inherent interest: Both of them became entranced by the concept of celebrity and, as part of the “bling ring” cabal, stole cash and belongings from the homes of famous people, including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Orlando Bloom. (One of their victims, “The Hills” personality Audrina Patridge, speaks to the camera for “The Real Bling Ring.”)
Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief For the second weekend running, comedy action film “Confidential Assignment 2: International” held top spot at the South Korean box office. And it did so with a massive 75% share of the market. But as the Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) holiday retreated into the rear-view mirror numbers, both for the sequel film and the nationwide box office, came crashing down. “Confidential Assignment 2” earned $6.89 million over the latest Friday to Sunday period, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC). That figure was down 57% compared with its opening salvo of $21.0 million a week earlier.
