EXCLUSIVE: Tony Award-winning director Anna D.Shapiro (August: Osage County), Oscar-nominated producer Leelai Demoz (On Tip-Toe), Tony-nominated actor/writer Ian Barford (Linda Vista) and entrepreneur Brad Keywell (Groupon, WNDR Museum) have teamed up to create multimedia venture Highwire Media, an artist-first production company that is developing and producing projects across film, theater, and television.

A VR executive and a seasoned Olympics broadcaster today unveiled BlueStar Studios, a $180-million, 53-acre campus in Forest Park, Georgia, the latest in a stream of projects to address booming demand for production space in the state.

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief “Band of Brothers” writer Bruce McKenna is teaming with David Broyles (“Six”) and Nick Jones Jr. (“Yasuke”) to write and produce a limited TV series “Buffalo Rangers” about the 2nd Ranger Company, the only all-Black special operations combat unit in U.S. history. They were notable for their efforts in the Korean War. The series is being produced by South Korea-based Moving Pictures Company, which has a growing English-language slate. No broadcaster or streamer has been announced. Producing alongside Broyles, Jones and McKenna are Thomas Suh (through his production company Système D Entertainment), Paul Merryman (“The Outpost”), Debra Martin Chase (“Harriet,” CBS’s “The Equalizer”) and Jariko Denman (“The Outpost”), a retired master sergeant with 15 combat deployments.

Gene Maddaus Senior Media Writer “Rust” will resume production in January, more than a year after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed on set. But the production will not return to New Mexico, where a criminal investigation and state workplace safety proceedings remain unresolved. The production is still looking for a new location, but California is a possibility, said Melina Spadone, the attorney for Rust Movie Productions LLC. The production company announced a settlement on Oct. 5 with Matthew Hutchins, the widower of the cinematographer. Under the agreement, the production will be able to resume after a 15-month hiatus. Matthew Hutchins said in a statement that completing the film would be a way “to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”

K.J. Yossman “Next Level Chef” is headed to France after Kitchen Factory Productions snapped up the French format rights to the culinary competition series. Kitchen Factory, who will produce the French version, announced the deal on Wednesday (Oct. 19) alongside Chef Cyril Lignac, producer Matthieu Jean-Toscani and Studio Ramsay Global, the joint production venture created by British chef Gordon Ramsay’s worldwide production with FOX Entertainment. (Ramsay is pictured above, left, with Lignac). The format of the show sees a three-storey stage on which each level boasts differing culinary equipment and ingredients reflecting their environment. The competing chefs – comprised of restaurant-experienced professionals, home cooks and even social media stars – must use their imagination and unleash their creativity all while keeping their cool as they attempt to climb from the challenging basement floor to the glistening top.

Toy Story star Tim Allen has been mocked for a viral social media post discussing the “face of woke”. The right-wing actor, who once compared Hollywood liberals to Nazis in 1930s Germany, posted on Twitter on Monday (17 October). “Who is the face of woke,” Allen wrote.

The plastic surgeon sued by 50 Cent for posting a photo of the rapper to her company’s social media profiles has hit back at the lawsuit, arguing that she hasn’t used the image for promotional purposes. And, anyway, 50 Cent gave her permission to post the photo in return for services provided to him and his girlfriend.The rapper – real name Curtis Jackson – sued Angela Kogan last month.

Manori Ravindran International Editor Mark Rylance-led thriller “Inland” has been picked up for international sales by Paris-based sales agent Wide ahead of its BFI London Film Festival premiere. Produced by Black Twist Films, the film stars Rory Alexander, Mark Rylance and Kathryn Hunter and plays in the official selection of the U.K. festival. “Inland” is a modern folktale that explores the fractured identity of a young man after the mysterious disappearance of his mother. Guided by a father figure and old friends who care deeply, his journey through the dreamlike spaces of rural England brings him face to face with the loss that haunts him in ways he could never have expected.
