Society has trained us to believe that without higher education, success is impossible. While this stigma creates challenges for those who feel they labelled as failures, for some, this provides even greater motivation to succeed. Alan Barton is a tribute to the power of such motivation.
Alan Barton is an entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of Motorclass, a premium car dealer in the UK. He personifies the entrepreneurial spirit and the drive to overcome challenges to achieve the success he enjoys today.
Alan's career rose from humble beginnings. Bored and unstimulated at school, he struggled and left before completing his GCSEs. After searching for years to find his path in life, he got a sales job at a car dealership at 19 - there, he discovered his passion for sales.
Eager to start his own company, Alan left the job after two years, but the lack of experience caused the business to fail after a few years. Despite the setback, Alan was undeterred and believed he would eventually start his own business.
After working at a large franchise dealer for seven years, Alan felt he was ready to start his own business and established Motorclass. Since its inception, Motorclass has experienced an almost meteoric rise, with the company employing more than 20 executives and earning yearly revenues of £45m.
Now 35, Alan owns a successful luxury car dealership that serves a range of high-net-worth individuals, from business leaders to athletes. However, he shares that his success path has been challenging: "There were no free rides, no shortcuts. Motorclass' launch is a story of endeavour, risk and reward."
"While education is important, it is not the only key to success, and failing in class does not mean that you automatically fail
