A radio DJ has been forced to apologise to listeners after one guest swore about Matt Hancock live on air.
Sara Cox had to cut off a caller after they branded the former health secretary a "c***" on BBC Radio 2. The 47 year-old had been speaking to the person in question who rung in to suggest a song, when they unexpectedly dropped the expletive.
The male, who picked Queen's hit single 'Don't Stop Me Now', was explaining his reason for the selection when he declared "because Matt Hancock's a c**t" before being quickly cut off, the Mirror reports.
"Okay so we've got to cut him off there," Sara went on to tell listeners. Cox then rushed some damage control, quickly apologising for the mishap before explaining that these slips can happen on live broadcasts.
She said: "This is live radio, this happens. I can only apologise if you've got children listening in the car." Before playing the Queen track, she added: "Huge apologises. It is live and here's the song."
Listeners were quick to pick up on the error and took to social media to share their reactions. "That caller's an absolute disgrace. Imagine picking Don't Stop Me Now by Queen," one Twitter user joked online after the segment aired.
"It’s true but bang out of order on national radio with little kids listening. Proper rubbish," another added, as a third wrote: "Love how she played the song anyway."
Others praised Sara for her handling of the disaster, which would leave many others in a fluster. Discussing the incident on Twitter, listener wrote: "Not even a flutter in @sarajcox voice. Very well handled and professional!"
