A Scots couple have been left shaken after a gang of masked prowlers tried to break into their home while they slept.
Lynn and Paul Skinner, both in their 50s, were awoken at 1am on Thursday morning after hearing noises outside their house on Pettycur Bay in Kinghorn, Fife. Chilling CCTV footage taken at the couple's home shows four masked intruders dressed in black attempting to enter the property through the front door.
The gang can be seen rounding the side of the house and pointing to a ground floor window, with one of them climbing up the patio to peer inside.
The couple's son Luke Skinner said his mum has been shaken by the incident.
The 28-year-old said: "When my parents saw the video, they immediately contacted the police. My mum is shaken up but they don't think there is a chance of the gang coming back.
"Their house is right out the way - there is a mile long road just to reach the estate. It's the only way in and out and the houses are right by the beach.
"There's never been any kind of crime there before, so I think everyone will be getting CCTV put in now."
The gang fled the scene when Paul went to the bathroom and spotted one of the men wearing a hooded jacket through the frosted glass window. He battered the window and the man scurried away.
It wasn't until later on Thursday morning that the family saw the footage.
Luke believes his parents' home was targeted because of their new cars parked in the driveway. In the clip, a member of the group appeared to be carrying a device which could be a signal booster - a piece of tech which allows thieves to unlock cars remotely by cloning keys left nearby a front door.
He added: "It looked like the group had a signal booster, which can copy the code from a car key and be
