American actress Mary Mara has died after her remains were discovered in the St. Lawrence River on Sunday 26 June. Mary was best known for starring in the likes of ER, Law & Order, Criminal Minds and Ray Donavar, to name a few.
In a report published yesterday, Monday 27 June, by New York State Police, it was confirmed that it was Mary’s body that was found and that the preliminary investigation suggests the late 61 year old drowned while swimming. As per the report, there were no signs of foul play, The Hollywood Reporter says. Confirming the news of her untimely passing, a representative for Fox News Digital told TMZ: “Mary was one of the finest actresses I ever met.
She had a terrific sense of humour and a unique outlook on life. “I still remember the first time that I saw her onstage in Mad Forest in 92. She was utterly captivating, well loved, and will be missed." While police suspect no foul play, Mary’s body has been transported to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office where an official cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
It’s thought that Mary was visiting her sister, and was in the river for exercise purposes, The Mirror reports.The late actress’ career spanned over 30 years, and she ended up with some huge TV titles under her belt. Mary featured in over 20 movies and 40 television shows, such as West Wing, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, NYPD Blue and Lost. People have since taken to social media to express their sadness of the news.
One person wrote: “Actress Mary Mara Dead at 61 ... Drowns in St. Lawrence River.
Sad. Please wear life jackets in all rivers and lakes.” Someone else said: “I am so gutwrenched at the news of Mary Mara’s death. An incredible person, actor, and spirit.”
