Paul Merson has insisted that Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford should start for England in the opening match of their World Cup campaign, but claimed that defender Luke Shaw 'shouldn't go' to the tournament.
Rashford has registered three goals and two assists in six appearances for United so far this season. However, he missed out on being selected for the Three Lions for the international break after picking up an injury that kept him out of the Europa League matches against Real Sociedad and Sheriff.
The 24-year-old has been much-improved this term after a difficult period of form last season. The United man grabbed a brace in the club's last Premier League match as Erik ten Hag's side secured a 3-1 victory over Arsenal earlier this month.

Rashford was expected to be included in Gareth Southgate's squad for the upcoming matches against Italy and Germany, but injury ruled him out. Despite this, his strong start to the season means he will be in contention for an England World Cup squad place.
While it remains to be seen if the United attacker will be called up for the Three Lions, Arsenal great Merson believes he should definitely be included in the squad.
"I think Marcus Rashford should feel hard done by. If he wasn't injured, I think he would have got into this squad and I think he'll get into the final 26-man World Cup squad if he keeps doing what he's doing," Merson said in his latest Sky Sports column.
"It does depend on what Ivan Toney does in the two Nations League games this month. I think the Brentford man has a chance, otherwise there's no point of him being there in the September squad.
