Former Ajax and Netherlands striker Marco van Basten has previously waxed lyrical about Manchester United-linked defender Jurrien Timber, not least about his ball-playing credentials.
Following Erik ten Hag's appointment as manager, United, who unveiled the Dutchman to the media on Monday, are being heavily linked with signing the Ajax defender. Capable of playing at both right-back and centre-back, Timber is viewed as one of the most promising defenders in European football.
The 20-year-old played a key role in Ajax's latest Eredivisie title success this season, earning him the club's Talent of the Year award. His performances have earned rave reviews from a number of United supporters and they are desperate see him join Ten Hag at Old Trafford this summer.

And it is not just United's supporters that the youngster has grabbed attention from. He also made a strong impression on Dutch icon Van Basten earlier this season when Ajax beat Sporting Lisbon 5-1 in the Champions League in September. He played at centre-back that night and his performance left the former Ajax star purring.

"He is reliable in the defensive part, but he is also so comfortable on the ball. Look, as a midfielder or attacker you just want that ball quickly.
"And he really goes straight forward. He conquers the ball and immediately gives deep passes and that is why things are moving in the right direction so quickly.
