Former Manchester United centre-back John O'Shea believes Paul Pogba's departure from Old Trafford is best for both parties, following confirmation of his exit on Wednesday.
United announced that the France international will leave the club when his contract expires on June 30. He returned to Old Trafford from Juventus in August 2016 but failed to live up to his £89million price tag.
He often blew hot and cold and he won just two trophies during his six-year stint at the club, both of which were won in his first season back in England. He was more committed to playing for France than he was United over the last few years and an exit has been on the cards for a considerable amount of time.

His last appearance at Old Trafford, which came in a 3-2 win over Norwich City in April, saw him booed and told to 'f**k off' by some United supporters. Former Reds defender O'Shea, who was on United's books as Pogba developed through the youth ranks, has claimed now is the right time for both the club and the midfielder to go their separate ways.
"I played with Paul a long time ago and he was super talented back then," said O'Shea, as quoted by the Irish Examiner. "I'm sure he's hoping for himself too that he finds that consistent level of performance that he wasn't able to find at different stages of the season over the spell when he came back.
"When you saw the goals and assists that he was able to get when he was fully fit, and the team was actually playing well, you saw what an important asset he was. Unfortunately, he had a few injuries too and couldn't probably get back to that level.
