Former Manchester United director Michael Knighton has suggested that his plan to submit a formal offer to buy the club is progressing 'as planned.'
Last month, Knighton, who came close to buying United back in 1989, confirmed that he was drawing up plans to submit a formal bid to buy the Reds from the Glazer family with the help of a consortium. The 70-year-old is no stranger to Old Trafford, serving on the club's board of directors after his failed takeover attempt more than 30 years ago.
Confirmation of Knighton's interest in buying the club last month was received with a mixed response from United's supporters. Many of them welcomed the idea of someone attempting to oust the Glazers, but they doubted whether he had the financial capabilities to buy them out.

A spokesperson for fellow British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe, also last month, confirmed that he, too, would be interested in buying the club if the opportunity presented itself. But while nothing concrete has developed over the last few weeks in regards to a potential takeover, Knighton has suggested that his plans to submit an offer are moving in the right direction.
On his Twitter page, Knighton posted: "Thank you, all, for the wonderful messages of support. There is much going on behind the scenes.
"Things are moving forward as planned. I apologise I can't be on this platform more, just bogged down in meetings.
"God bless & every good with to all of you. Your support is greatly appreciated."
