Gabriel Agbonlahor has told Manchester United that Jadon Sancho needs an 'arm around him' after the slow start to his career.
The £73m-man has two goals and is yet to provide an assist in 23 appearances for the Reds and has yet to find the net under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
He has failed to live up to the heights that he reached during his time in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund where he scored 50 goals in 137 appearances, registering 64 assists.
And former Aston Villa and England forward, Agbonlahor, has noted the 21-year-old is low on confidence and believes it's the manager, as well as his teammates' job to try lift him out of the rut.
"The thing I see with Sancho, I've watched his clips and you watched him at Dortmund and he was probably one of the top two there; himself and Haaland I'd say," he told talkSPORT.
"So when you're the top two players in the team, everything goes through you and you know 'if I make a mistake it doesn't matter, I'm the top player at the club.'
"He's come to Manchester United and there's players who have done more in the game than him. You've got Rashford who's been in the team a long time, Ronaldo, all these winners in this Manchester United team, Matic who won things at Chelsea and you've got big characters like Fernandes.
"I think watching Sancho looks to me like he's playing like a 17-year-old who's just got in the first-team, he's making mistakes and he's down then.
"He can't get past the left-back and right-back, his confidence is low, he'll pass it back to the right-back and left-back instead of taking him on one v one. For me, it's the manager's job and the bigger players in the team to go 'don't worry about it if you lose the ball, don't worry if you don't get past
