Manchester United's David de Gea is close to being the hardest goalkeeper to score against in the Premier League.
New research from BetVictor has ranked De Gea as the second hardest goalkeeper to beat in the top flight this season. De Gea has been United's standout performer this term and he's regularly produced spectacular saves, sometimes single-handedly earning United points.
The Spaniard ranks high in the new study and he's clear of Liverpool's Allison and Manchester City's Ederson. The ranking algorithm considers post-shot expected goals (PsxG) minus goals against (GA) to determine who is truly the best stopper.

In layman's terms, the data looks at how many goals more or less a goalkeeper has conceded than he's been expected to. It also considers key shot-stopping statistics such as save percentage to find out how difficult a goalkeeper has been to beat.
De Gea ranks second highest in the Premier League on the algorithm, having conceded seven goals less than the stats say he should have conceded this season.
However, his PSxG of 49 is the second-highest after Leeds' Illan Meslier — indicating a lack of protection in front of him.
That conclusion certainly reaffirms the visual impression that United's poor defensive performances have left behind this season.
