Manchester United have been told they should be "embarrassed" for their league position after falling behind Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham in the Champions League hunt.
Ralf Rangnick's side have failed to keep up with the pace in the race for the top four, as they sit outside the places to qualify for the elite European competition. United's squad is among the most expensive in the Premier League with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane at the club.
But former Premier League forward Dion Dublin believes the calibre of the Old Trafford side should pit them higher than the trio of London clubs vying for the Champions League. "The way that the season has gone for them is horrendous, their performances have been horrendous. I’m going off Man United’s own standards here.
"I think they’ll be pretty embarrassed with how things have gone. If they have any pride in themselves, they will do. But I do believe there’s a backbone of a squad there that could get back to fighting for things, it’s just who can manage the egos and manage the players, that’s all it’s about."
Dublin was speaking before United's abject 4-0 defeat at Brighton, which ended their top four hopes once and for all this season.
