Manchester Airport and TUI apologise for delays on 'Manic Monday' with huge queues at check-in and security

Airport bosses have apologised as passengers faced delays on 'Manic Monday'. Holidaymakers using Manchester Airport were met with queues of up to 90 minutes through security on the last day of the Easter bank holiday.
Long queues were also reported by passengers flying with airline TUI, who also apologised for delays caused by 'staff shortages'. Lucie Spencer, said her TUI flight was held for more than an hour as passengers experienced 'frustrating' and 'annoying' hold-ups.
The 25-year-old salon owner from Lancashire said: "Queues were very long, we were in Terminal 2. They moved consistently but slowly. The mood of the airport was generally calm but you could hear people moaning, of course, as it’s not fun standing in queues for so long.

"It’s definitely due to major staff shortage, TUI had basically no check-in desks open, just self check-in, which seemed to cause the huge queue. Security was then huge queues as there was only three of eight security lanes open.
"Queues to get in all bars and restaurants, meaning we had to give up to it so as to not miss our flight.
"Still sat on plane, should have taken off at 8.30am but the luggage wasn’t loaded onto the plane in time."
Dom Smith, from Liverpool, flew to Orlando in Florida from Manchester earlier today. He said: "It's not been as bad as previous media reports from last week.
"Security was fairly well organised. TUI queues were nuts so glad I'm not flying with them. Departures is calm. Staff were all helpful and doing their best."
