A man has been left heartbroken after his beloved dog was mauled to death on a walk by German Shepherds. Ian Fields, 50, paid tribute to his Chihuahua, Luna, after the fatal attack, reports Grimsby Live.
The incident occurred last week in Grimsby whilst the 50-year-old was out walking the five-year-old dog. Ian says as he was putting something in a bin when the three German Shepherds unexpectedly appeared.
He explained: "We were out walking Luna and our other dog, Stella, along Frederick Ward Way near the river. I was just putting something in the bin when I heard the pitter patter of footsteps and turned to see these three German Shepherds.
"The girl walking them could have only been about 18 - bless her and there was no way she could've controlled all of them. When I realised one of them had Luna in its mouth, I started punching it to get it to drop her.
"It all happened so quickly too, and as soon as I got her out I wrapped her in a towel and took her to my mum's which was only five minutes away. Having seen what had happened though, I knew it was bad.
"Looking back, it's as if these dogs were taking the girl for a walk. The fact I didn't even hear anything until they were on top of Luna makes me think they came from the steps closer to the river.
"I just remember shouting at her to get her dog under control." Following the horrific incident, the dog owner then took Luna straight to the Blue Cross Animal Hospital.
However, he was called by the hospital a few hours later to be told that his dog would need to be put down. Ian says he was left 'devastated' by the news and the quickness of the whole tragic incident.
