A man has been charged with breach of the peace following an alleged disturbance outside the First Minister's official residence in Edinburgh.
The 28-year-old was arrested after officers were called to Charlotte Square in the capital at around 7.40pm on Saturday April 1, following reports that an individual was seen allegedly acting 'suspiciously' within the vicinity of Bute House. A cordon was established while police responded to the alleged incident, with three vehicles reportedly in attendance.
Last night, cops said that a man had been arrested in connection with the incident. They have now confirmed that he has been charged with an offence.
However, they have stressed that no threat was posed to the wider public over the course of the evening.
Bute House is now the official residence of Humza Yousaf after he succeeded Nicola Sturgeon as SNP leader earlier this week and was appointed First Minister by the Scottish Parliament.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 7.40pm on Saturday, 1 April, to a report of a man acting suspiciously in the Charlotte Square area of Edinburgh.
"Officers attended and a 28-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with a breach of the peace.
“There was no threat to the wider public and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Government last night told the PA news agency that they were aware of the situation but will not be commenting, adding that it was a "police matter".
