A man and woman will appear in court accused of romping in a city centre in front of hundreds of people. Joe Firby, from Gateshead in the North East, and Kelly Cousins, of Merton Road, Bootle, have been charged with public indecency after allegedly performing sex acts on each other outside a Liverpool bar.
A video of the alleged incident, which took place just a few metres from the entrance of Einsten Bier Haus, appeared online on August 2. They were allegedly seen by members of the public, with other clips allegedly showing the same pair engaging in sexual activity on Bold Street and a Merseyrail train, the Daily Star reports.
Firby, 23, was arrested on August 8 by Northumbria Police on behalf of Merseyside police and is set to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, September 20. Cousins, 35, is also set to appear in Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, September 20, charged with the same offence, after she was charged on Friday, August 5.
Liverpool Mayor Joanne Anderson expressed her frustration at the alleged situation when she said: "I am extremely shocked and concerned at videos circulating showing acts of indecent exposure and sexual activity in our city. This isn’t amusing – it’s disturbing, damaging and an illegal act.
"It also sets a dangerous precedent for the young women and men of our city. Let me be clear – this is a criminal offence. Acts of indecent behaviour in public places in Liverpool is simply unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I have spoken with Merseyside Police and requested immediate and appropriate action."
