Glamour. “I've worked in beauty for so long, and I always want to try the new thing and constantly test products. But I think for me, and what I tell a lot of people is, try to understand what your skin needs as best as you can.
My skin needs different things throughout the month, so when I'm hormonal, there's different things that I need than when it's really dry. But when you find a thing that works, don't fix it if it's not broken.”Make is also based on the idea of what a modern routine looks like, and in Barber's eyes, it's a streamlined one. “For so long, it was really popular to have a really elaborate skincare routine, and that's never been me,” she says.
“I didn't wash my face until I was probably 20. I've never been a massive routine person, and I think most people overdo it.” Instead, she tends to spend her time and money on treatments and regular facials, which is where she sees the most results. Though most of her routine is Make, Barber still enjoys finding products on a trip to Sephora or scrolling through TikTok. The two most important things she looks for when shopping are hydration and texture.
“It's so much about texture for me,” she says of what makes her buy a product. “If a serum is really cushiony and slippy, but then is sticky when it dries down, I'm not super into that. But I will do anything for any sort of rich cream.
I just could be in rich cream all day. It's all about hydration for me. And then also so much about how it feels when I'm using it, how it dries down, and then how it plays with makeup, because I wear makeup every single day, I always want my skincare to play well under makeup.” Below, Carrie Barber drops her routine.
