London City Airport is the first airport in the UK to scrap the 100ml limit on liquids passengers can take in their hand luggage. The airport is removing the restriction in time for the Easter Holidays, The Metro reports.
It comes after the government announced in December that it had set a deadline of June 2024 for UK airports to install new security technology, bringing an end to the 100ml limit on liquids in hand luggage. In the future passengers will be able to bring containers carrying up to two litres of liquid in their hand luggage.
The new security technology involves using computerised tomography (CT) scans to take a 3D image of the contents of the hand luggage. It also means passengers will no longer have to remove laptops and take them through security separately, making the process smoother and more efficient for holidaymakers.

The technology is being gradually rolled out at airports across the UK. The Manchester Evening News understands that Manchester Airport is finalising their programme for completing the upgrades to the current technology and that the new scanners will be introduced as soon as possible.
However, passengers still need to comply with the current guidance in the meantime. This means liquids, gels and pastes need to be under 100ml and carried in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag separate to their hand baggage through security.
Large electrical items such as laptops and iPads also need to be removed from hand luggage and screened separately.
