Machete-wielding Florida man dies in officer-involved shooting

Two women attending a Florida street rally to support President Trump were injured when someone shot pellets at them from a car, authorities said Friday.  Fort Lauderdale Police and Fire Rescue crews responded to a street corner around 6:15 p.m.

Florida federal prosecutors have announced the capture of a fugitive Connecticut rapist after he went on the lam 44 years ago and who they say assumed the identity of a 5-year-old who died in 1945. Douglas Bennett, 76, a former drama department instructor at Mount Holyoke College, the prestigious private liberal arts college for women, was taken into custody in Clearwater, Fla., where he had been living for years.

A Florida man shot and killed his pregnant wife at home, thinking she was a late-night invader, according to local reports. The unidentified man claimed he heard a noise around 1 a.m., grabbed his handgun and fired a shot at someone in the dark hallway.

A dozen shots rang out at a youth football game in Florida, killing a man and wounding his 7-year-old son, according to reports. The shooting happened Sunday evening at a park next to an elementary school in Jacksonville and touched off a chaotic scene that sent kids and adults running for their lives in all directions.The boy's injury was a graze wound.

A body found in an SUV pulled from a Florida retention pond appears to be that of a woman missing for more than three weeks, according to reports. Police searching for Stephanie Hollingsworth, 50, of Belle Isle, confirmed the Chevy Tahoe fished out of the water Saturday night belonged to her, Fox 35 Orlando reported.

Florida Republicans have cut the voter registration gap with Democrats to a historic low, giving the GOP a boost during early voting.  Politico reported Thursday night that the difference in registration numbers for voters in the battleground state is the lowest in at least three decades. Republicans now trail Democrats by just 134,242 registered voters, down from 327,483 in 2016.  Four years ago, President Trump won the Sunshine State by fewer than 113,000 votes.
