Love Island's Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu has backed the show's new social media ban for Islanders, so that the focus is on "finding love".The 28 year old found love herself with 'Italian Stallion' Davide Sanclimenti on last year's summer show, which the pair won by a landslide public vote. They remain together to this day. During an interview for Women's Health UK magazine, of which she is on the cover for the latest issue, Ekin-Su discussed the positives and negatives of the social media ban for the latest contestants.
Prior to the winter series beginning in January, ITV announced that, for the first time ever, contestants' social media accounts would be temporarily disabled during their time on the show, in a bid to curb negative trolling. Previously, Islanders' accounts would be handled by their friends and families, and Islanders would often leave the show with millions of followers, leading to lucrative contracts in the six-figures.
This year, however, all of the Islanders left the show with followers in the low hundreds of thousands, and clothing retailer PrettyLittleThing told MailOnline that they would not be signing anyone from this year's show. Ekin-Su, who has 3.2 million followers on Instagram, told Women’s Health UK: “Pausing profiles, I think, is good – but then I think there are loads of negatives (for the careers of potential contestants).
“Why I think it’s good is because it’s purely based on finding love. “People use Love Island as a platform… the concept is of finding a partner… Instagram, all that stuff is a bonus.” Contestants often garner huge amounts of followers and sign lucrative brand deals after featuring on the reality series.
