Loose Women stars Denise Welch and Carol McGiffin were at odds after a fierce debate over drinking, forcing host Charlene White to step in.
The argument came as fellow panelist on the ITV show Katie Piper, 38, revealed she had decided to do Dry January and the women discussed the pros and cons of the month long sobriety.
Katie revealed she was considering extending Dry January into February when Denise opened up about her decision to stop drinking a decade ago.
The 63-year-old presenter had her last drink in April 2012 and has since said that sobriety “gave [her] life back”.
However, the discussion soon got heated after Carol weighed in with her own reluctance to give up the booze.
She said: "I quite like being drunk and I like having a hangover. It gives me a chance to do nothing."
She turned to Denise and said: "Don't you start, the booze police over here."
She continued: "I don't drink as much as you think I do. I don't get that bad hangovers, otherwise I probably would have stopped. I do it purely for social reasons - I go out."
Denise went onto say that she wished Carol would “not drink as much” because she’s had cancer.
Denise said: “I worry about it from a health point of view.”
Carol shouted in response: “You’ve got to take chances in life!” to which Denise said, “I know you have - we all know that.”
At this point, Charlene White, 41, decided to intervene and repeatedly said “Ladies, ladies, ladies”.
She said: “Take a breath, ladies. We could honestly talk about this for the entire show.”
Carol cut in to say to Denise: “I might give up booze and get it again,” to which Denise responded with a despairing gesture.
Charlene turned to the camera in the studio to say: “I’m sure you guys want a little bit more than these two
