‘The Bad Batch’ Season 2 Trailer: ‘Star Wars’ Baddest Clones Will Return In The Fall

Admittedly, one of the most difficult things of this Memorial Day weekend hasn’t been getting tickets to “Top Gun: Maverick” (which rules, btw), but trying to keep the final weekend of Cannes in your head straight while “Star Wars” Celebration week was happening at the same time. One supposes this is the rub in the Age Of Content™.

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Review: Perhaps It’s Too Big A Burden For The Jedi Master To Be Our Only Hope

“Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope,” is obviously a quintessential line in the “Star Wars” canon and one that echoes out in so many ways in the new Lucasfilm limited series, “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” For those troubled, disturbed even, by the post-Disney acquisition era force, er, direction of “Star Wars” these last few years— the disjointed Skywalker Saga sequels, the hit and miss efforts on Disney+, including the dreadfully dull “Book Of Boba Fett”— hope springs eternal for ‘Obi-Wan’ and by proxy, the future of “Star Wars.” But as this fascinating, occasionally thrilling, and yet sometimes deeply frustrating series quickly proves—at least in the two episodes available on Disney+ so far—perhaps resting all our hopes on one character is too big a burden for the aging Jedi Master.

Lucasfilm might be allegedly done with the Skywalker Saga for now, but the elements around it, like the dark period when the Empire ruled the galaxy, are far from done being fully explored. This dark time was covered in the prequel movie, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” and now that story and one character, in particular, are getting their own prequel in “Andor,” a “Star Wars” limited-series centering on Diego Luna‘s Cassian Andor rebel, years before the events of ‘Rogue One.’ READ MORE: Lucasfilm Reveals ‘Andor’ Coming Summer 2022, ‘Mandalorian’ S3 Late 2022/Early 2023 & More Showrun by Tony Gilroy, directed by Toby Haynes, Ben Caron, and Susanna White, “Andor” is written by a powerhouse team that includes Gilroy, his brother and filmmaker Dan Gilroy (“Nightcrawler“), Beau Willimon (the showrunner of “House Of Cards“) and Stephen Schiff (known for “The Americans“).

While we don’t know a lot of details, it’s confirmed that the new show takes place during The High Republic, a new era of “Star Wars” that was launched for a publication push for books and comic books, a hundred years before the events of “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.” Set between The Old Republic and the Skywalker Saga, the show will indeed move away from the Skywalkers but Jedi such as Yoda are alive during this era, allowing for original/prequel trilogy characters to make their comebacks.

What’s the real story about Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s unceremonious dismissal from the directing job of “Solo: A Star Wars Story?” That’s a question that people have been wanting an answer to for years now, after the acclaimed comedic filmmakers were dumped after three months of filming and replaced by Ron Howard, who ended up reshooting almost the entire film. Well, even though the directing duo isn’t keen on spilling all of the details, they did shed some light on the learning experience that was “Solo.” Speaking to The Business podcast, hosted by Kim Masters, Lord and Miller talked as openly as we can expect about the “Solo: A Star Wars Story” situation.
