Cynthia Littleton Business Editor Go big and go broad – that is Paramount Global’s strategy as it formally raises the curtain Tuesday on the Paramount+ With Showtime premium tier on the company’s primary streaming platform. Paramount+ will begin offering its new top tier of service that now encompasses Showtime’s large library of content for $11.99 per month. That’s up $2 from the previous top-end Paramount+ package. But it’s less than the cost to consumers today for both services, even with Paramount’s previous discounts for those who subscribed to both services. The company’s ad-supported Paramount+ Essential Plan (without Showtime) is going up from $4.99 to $5.99 per month.
Malina Saval Associate Editor, Features When series creator Tony McNamara was crafting the character of Aunt Elizabeth in Hulu’s Emmy-winning biographical comedy “The Great,” he penned it with his actor wife and fellow Aussie, Belinda Bromilow, front of mind. “I knew the character and I knew what I needed from an actor to do it,” says McNamara, a seasoned playwright and Oscar-nominated screenwriter for Yorgos Lanthimos’ piquant 2018 drama “The Favourite.” “I knew [Elizabeth] needed to have a strong dramatic voice but also be a bit idiosyncratic and have really good comic bones,” McNamara continues. “The actor needed to be able to do comedy and be able to shift gears into a darker place. And I’d worked with Belinda before and knew that she could do that.”

Taylor Sheridan already has a slew of series on Paramount+ like “Tulsa King,” “Mayor Of Kingstown,” and two “Yellowstone” spinoffs, “1883” and “1923.” And good news for “Yellowstone” fans: after its fifth season concludes, new episodes will premiere on Paramount+, too (along with yet another spinoff, “Lawmen: Bass Reeves,” due later this year).
Another Taylor Sheridan series has gotten a release date. Paramount+’s “Special Ops: Lioness” is set to premiere globally on Sunday, July 23. The streamer also released its first teaser for the series.
Andrew Hartzler, the nephew of anti-LGBTQ Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler, has once again gone viral for sharing a video of his parents hiring an exorcist to “exorcize the demons” they believe were “responsible” for “making him gay.” Hartzler first went viral in the summer of 2022 after posting a video of his aunt Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler crying after opposing the Respect for Marriage Act of 2022.The Respect for Marriage Act requires states to recognize same-sex marriages made in other states and repeals the Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as only between a man and a woman.Using Biblical values as the basis for her argument, the Congresswoman tearfully begged for the bill not to pass. After the bill passed, Andrew Hartzler posted a response to his aunt, pointing out how this kind of speech is “hateful rhetoric and blatant discrimination” against LGBTQ people.Hartlzer went through his aunt’s speech, highlighting her leaps in logic and fundamental ignorance about religion, the government, and LGBTQ people. When the Respect for Marriage Act came to President Biden’s desk, Andrew Hartzler was invited to the signing ceremony on December 13, 2022. Hartzler has since worked at Oklahomans for Equality, an Oklahoma-based LGBTQ advocacy group that operates the Dennis R.
Matthew Chernov From Al Pacino’s white suit in “Scarface” and Robert De Niro’s tortoiseshell sunglasses in “Casino” to James Gandolfini’s bowling shirts in “The Sopranos” and Steve Buscemi’s Derby hats in “Boardwalk Empire,” movie and TV gangsters are famous for their bold fashion sense. And the latest nattily dressed mobster to hit the screen is Dwight Manfredi, the Mafia capo played by Sylvester Stallone in the Paramount+ series “Tulsa King.” Created by Taylor Sheridan, the show stars Stallone as an aging mafioso who’s exiled to Tulsa, Okla., by his New York crime family after spending 25 years in prison. Costume designer Suzanne McCabe created Stallone’s wardrobe on the series, and she based many of her designs on the real-life Mafia bosses whose taste in expensive clothing and flashy accessories made them unlikely celebrities throughout the 1980s. “I looked at the Gambino crime family, the Franzese family, and all the usual ones that you always saw in the papers back then,” she says.
Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large These are indeed the waning days of the scripted basic cable juggernaut. That may be a strange thing to point out when once again, the most-watched entertainment show of the just-completed 2022-2023 TV season was “Yellowstone,” the modern western that airs on Paramount Network. But “Yellowstone” is wrapping up sometime in the next year, and the only other scripted series from a basic cabler to consistently be ranked among TV’s top shows, AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” has already ended its run. “The Walking Dead,” of course, dominated the season-ender charts for years — even beating football in the 2014-2015 TV season with a whopping 13.2 rating among adults 18-49. But as basic cable is almost completely out of the original scripted series business now (unscripted hits like “Vanderpump Rules” still abound, of course), those brief halcyon days are coming to an end.
The family that Stallones together, stays together — even if there are bumps along the way. Jennifer Flavin opened up about getting to know herself as an “empty nester” prior to her brief split from husband Sylvester Stallone.
The Family Stallone is returning for another go-round. Paramount+ has renewed the reality series, starring Sylvester Stallone, his wife Jennifer Flavin Stallone and daughters Sophia, Sistine and Scarlet, for a second season.
BreAnna Bell Just one week after the series premiered, Paramount+ has ordered a second season of “The Family Stallone.” Starring Academy Award nominee Sylvester Stallone, wife Jennifer Flavin Stallone and daughters Sophia, Sistine and Scarlet, the docuseries offers a glimpse into the personal life of Stallone and his most prized possession: his family. In the first season, fans got to know the “Rocky” star’s wife, who is the co-owner of the Serious Skin Care wellness brand and a businesswoman, as well as what his three girls are up to. The oldest, Sophia, is still finding her focus and co-hosts the “Unwaxed” podcast with Sistine; Sistine, an actress and model, who was hard at work developing her first feature film; and Scarlet whose acting career was taking off while she continued to pursue her studies in college. She recently appeared in Season 1 of “Tulsa King.” In addition to the family, some familiar faces by the likes of Al Pacino and Dolph Lundgren also made brief cameos.
Maria Bakalova, the Oscar-nominated star of “Borat Subsequent Movie Film,” is set to star in the action-comedy “My Masterpiece” for Sylvester Stallone and Braden Aftergood’s Balboa Productions. Cassandra Brooksbank will make her feature directorial debut from a script by Jason Hellerman. The Veterans and CAA Media Finance will introduce the film to buyers at Cannes this week. According to the official description, “My Masterpiece” follows a hitwoman hellbent on dismantling an unfair system within her industry, who gets stuck on the second floor of an office building after she takes vengeance on a corporate overlord. That means she has to fight her way through fellow murderers and her past to ensure justice prevails. If all goes well, this might just be her masterpiece.
Are streaming services better served by the bulk release strategy or the traditional weekly model? A new report from Samba TV suggests that there are actually benefits to both when it comes to maximizing viewership.
The Family Stallone (Paramount+), a new fly-on-the-wall show featuring Sylvester Stallone and his family, the actor explains why he has signed up to this. “I thought, ‘Oh my God, my daughters are grown up. Wouldn’t it be great if I could spend some serious time with them where they couldn’t escape?’”It’s also just a teeny bit possible that Stallone was sweet-talked into this by his three daughters, Sistine, Sophia and Scarlet, because they’ve seen the Kardashians become insanely famous and would like a piece of that.
