The top prosecutor in Oregon's most populous county announced an immigration reform policy Thursday in an effort to protect non-citizens from being deported if they are charged with a crime. The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office said the new policy will balance the rights of American citizens and those living in the country illegally.

Multnomah County, Oregon, which contains the city of Portland and is responsible for prosecuting criminal activity in the city, is looking to remove gender-related language from its charter. Voters in the county are set to vote on a local ballot measure that would remove language in the 1966 charter that includes "gender binary pronouns," such as "he, she, his and her," and instead use gender-neutral terms.

The Multnomah County district attorney praised the county Democratic Party Tuesday for recently passing a resolution supporting his decision not to prosecute certain protesters at nightly demonstrations in Portland. In August, Mike Schmidt announced that his office would decline to prosecute cases against protesters that did not involve violence, property damage or theft.

Portland law enforcement officials have announced the arrests of four people accused of taking part in a human sex-trafficking scheme involving a child. Portland Police Bureau’s Human Trafficking Unit learned in July 2019 that a child was being “sold for sex” and, over the subsequent months, arrested four men, ages 19, 24, 51 and 51, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.

The Portland demonstrator captured on video beating another man during a protest was sentenced to 20 months in prison, authorities said Monday.  Marquise Love, 26, pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and felony riot, the Multnomah County District Attorney said.  Love, who also goes by “Keese Love,” was seen repeatedly punching and kicking Adam Haner during an Aug.

Portland demonstrators identifying themselves as Antifa targeted a Democratic campaign office Sunday, shattering windows and spray -painting messages like “F--- Biden” and “no presidents” on the building. A group of people met in Laurelhurst Park Sunday evening before marching north and gathering in front of the Multnomah County Democrats building located in the 3500 block of Northeast Sandy Boulevard.

Crowds in Portland participated in illegal street racing and someone fired a gun into the air Saturday night during celebrations that broke out across the city after Joe Biden was projected as the winner of the 2020 presidential election. Several dozen demonstrators also marched in front of a building occupied by U.S.

The Oregon National Guard was directed to place its members on standby ahead of potential election unrest in Portland, Gov. Kate Brown announced Monday.  Brown said she is also exercising her executive authority to create a joint incident command structure in Portland, with the Oregon State Police and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office co-managing the police response in the city.
