Joe Leydon Film Critic The next time you hear someone complain that they sure don’t make them like they used to, point them in the direction of “Accidental Texan,” an unapologetically old-fashioned feel-good dramedy that, with a few minor tweaks, could pass as a newly rediscovered family-friendly feature from the mid-1970s. Back then, the lead roles probably would have been filled by the likes of, say, Brian Keith and Kurt Russell.
Following the outsized PG-13 success of both M3gan with its frightening robotic doll and then Five Nights at Freddy’s with its animatronic rock band, Blumhouse has now settled on a familiar childhood companion, a seemingly innocent stuffed bear named Chauncey, to deliver carefully calculated chills in Imaginary. It is a formula that sheds the R-rated explicitness from the horror genre, something Blumhouse knows well, and makes it more palatable for a younger audience not just in ratcheting down the bloodletting, but also in bringing it to a level kids might relate to. And what better than putting familiar playthings at the center of the action, in every case guaranteed to stir up our demons and make us jump out of our seats.

An episode of the US edition of Antiques Roadshow has left viewers completely freaked out, after an owner brought in a creepy porcelain doll dating back to Victorian times with an even more terrifying backstory. The doll - which was brought into the New Orleans site in near perfect condition - was appraised by antique expert Billye Harris, who informed the guest that the item was made in 1880 France by Leon Casimir Bru. Harris explained that the 19th century toy was called a 'French Circle Dot Bru doll,' and that the maker was renowned for creating the "finest toys." The expert then made a point of focusing on the glass paperweight eyes, which she stated were curved and bulged out to give the doll a more "realistic, human feature." After listing all the features of the Leon Casimir Bru creation, Harris estimated that the doll would retail for around $12,000 to $14,000.
