The award, created in 2004, was named in honor of SHOF chairman emeritus Hal David for his support of young songwriters.The ceremony, the first since 2019, is slated for Thursday, June 16 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Young Thug protégé Lil Keed has died at the age of 24, a statement from his family has confirmed.“Can’t believe I seened u die today bro I did all my cries,” his brother, Lil Gotit, wrote on Instagram. “I know what u want me to do and that’s go hard for Mama Daddy Our Brothers Naychur and Whiteboy.”In a separate post, the rapper’s girlfriend Quana Bandz wrote: “I love you sooooo much baby what I’m post to do with out you I can’t breathe right sleep right nothing I don’t even wanna talk to nobody Keed I can’t take this,” she wrote.

Shirley Ju Raqhid Jevon Render, who was known by his rapper stage name Lil Keed and was a frontrunner of Young Thug’s Young Stoner Life Records label, has died. He was 24 years old.Render’s death was confirmed by his label on Saturday morning.

ATLANTA -- Attorneys for Young Thug, who was arrested this week under an indictment accusing him of co-founding a violent street gang, filed an emergency motion Friday seeking bond for the Atlanta rapper, calling his jail conditions “inhumane."The performer, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, was arrested Monday at his Atlanta home. He’s one of 28 people indicted in Georgia’s Fulton County on racketeering charges.

Young Thug‘s lawyer has hit out at the rapper’s “dungeon like” prison conditions in an emergency filing.Brian Steel said the rapper, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, was being held in “solitary confinement” in a “windowless cement compartment with only a bed and a toilet and an overhead light which remains on 24 hours per day,” according to a motion filed today (May 13) (via Rolling Stone).He also alleged that his client can’t sleep, rest, or meditate due to the disorienting environment and has “no opportunity to exercise, shower or have human contact.”“Mr. Williams, an innocent man, who is wholly isolated from the world, must obtain immediate relief,” Steel added.It comes after Williams was arrested on gang-related charges earlier this week.He is one of 28 people charged in an indictment that focuses on the alleged street gang YSL (“Young Slime Life”), believed to have formed in Atlanta in 2012.

Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorRapper Gunna, who was named Monday with fellow Atlanta rapper Young Thug and dozens of others in a massive gang indictment, was booked into Georgia’s Fulton County jail on Wednesday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and other news outlets.The 28-year-old rapper (real name: Sergio Giavonni Kitchens) is charged with a single count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act in the 56-count state indictment, which is aimed at alleged members of the Young Slime Life gang — which is similar to the name of Young Thug’s independent label, Young Stoner Life — and includes charges of murder, drug and gun possession, witness intimidation, carjacking, robbery, theft and drug dealing. The indictment includes 28 total defendants affiliated with YSL, and charges them with 56 counts related to gang activity and racketeering; the indictment alleges that Gunna committed felonies including receiving stolen property and drug possession with intent to distribute.

ATLANTA -- The rapper Gunna was booked into a jail in Atlanta on a racketeering charge Wednesday after he was indicted with fellow rapper Young Thug and more than two dozen other people.An indictment filed Monday in Fulton County Superior Court accuses Gunna, whose given name is Sergio Kitchens, of violating Georgia's anti-racketeering law. It was not immediately clear whether he had a lawyer who could comment on the charges.The indictment alleges that Young Thug co-founded a violent street gang that committed murders, shootings and carjackings over roughly a decade and promoted its activities in songs and on social media.
