Stray Kids Lands Third No. 1 Album With Hefty CD Sales, Luke Combs’ ‘Fast Car’ Cover Enters Top Five

Thania Garcia One week after Taylor Swift’s re-issued edition of “Midnights” shot back up the charts, knocking Morgan Wallen off the top for the first time in three months, K-pop group Stray Kids takes the crown. The eight-member group earns its third No. 1 album with “Five-Star,” following “Maxident” and “Oddinary,” both of which were released last year. The 12-song set clocks in with the equivalent of 249,500 albums sold in the United States, with 231,000 of those units coming from CD sales — of which there were 18 different variants — according to the tracking service Luminate. In total, the album earned 20 million on-demand official streams. With lyrics mostly sung in Korean, “Five-Star” is just the third non-English album to hit No. 1, behind Karol G’s “Mañana Será Bonito” and Tomorrow X Together’s “The Name Chapter: Temptation.”

Taylor Swift’s Ice Spice ‘Karma’ Remix Lands at No. 2 on Songs Chart as Morgan Wallen’s ‘Last Night’ Holds Top Slot

Thania Garcia Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” dominated the Billboard 200 for a historic three months but that streak was cut short in the latest tracking week by none other than Taylor Swift’s 2022 album “Midnights,” which reclaimed the No. 1 slot thanks to the release of deluxe reissues. The competition on the songs list, however, saw Wallen take the lead with his guitar-driven single “Last Night” holding atop the songs list for a ninth week. Looking at the numbers, “Last Night” drew 66 million airplay audience impressions and 33 million streams while Swift’s “Karma” remix featuring Bronx rapper Ice Spice inched close in streams, earning 23 million, but fell behind in airplay audience impressions, where it tallied 38 million.

Taylor Swift Halts Morgan Wallen’s Three-Month Streak at No. 1, as Added Tracks Put ‘Midnights’ Back on Top

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Morgan Wallen was poised to have a 13th straight week topping the Billboard 200 album chart, but someone who more regularly weaponizes the number 13 had other plans. Taylor Swift stopped Wallen’s possibly historic run at 12 weeks, as her 2022 album “Midnights” reclaimed the top spot due to the release of deluxe editions with hotly anticipated new tracks. All of the different variations of “Midnights” count as one for charting purposes. After never leaving the top 10 since it came out last year, and recently spending a number of weeks at No. 2, “Midnights” returned to No. 1 with 282,000 album-equivalent units for the week. It wasn’t a close call, as Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” album registered 126,000 units to slip to No. 2. If it hadn’t been Swift toppling Wallen, it almost could have been somewhere else. The country star’s long-standing smash was nearly in a tie with Lil Durk’s “Almost Healed,” which came in third with 125,000 units.
