Lewis Capaldi’s smash hit Someone You Loved has been listened to an astonishing 2.6billion times on Spotify.The incredible total makes it one of the most streamed songs in the platform’s history and eclipses any other Scottish artist.
The hit is Capaldi’s most popular song according to a study of playlists appearing on the music streaming service.Researchers looked at 41,773 tracks across 995 artist-inspired playlists and found it had been featured in 262 Spotify playlists. Someone You Loved – released in November 2018 – spent seven weeks at No1 and was the UK’s best-selling single of 2019.It went on to become the longest-running top 10 UK single by a British artist the following year.
The 26-year-old singer will perform his fans’ favourite anthem on the BBC’s Hogmanay show later this month.The study also revealed that Capaldi’s song Bruises – first brought out in 2017 and re-released in January 2020 – was the next favourite for his fans, appearing in 200 playlists.Before You Go appeared in 194, with Hold Me While You Wait featuring on 177 and Grace on 173.
The songs are all from his first studio album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, which was released in May 2019.The East Whitburn star is due to release his second studio album, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, in May.
But the research carried out by media website Casino Guardian found the first two tracks from his upcoming album have already been a hit with fans, with Forget Me added to 142 playlists and Pointless to 107.Tickets for Capaldi’s upcoming UK tour sold out in seconds when released in October. He will tour in January and February, with stops at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro and the P&J Live in Aberdeen.
