Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor It’s such a great idea, and so seemingly obvious, that it’s hard to believe no one had already thought of it: A line of horror and rock-themed pet products bearing the name Freak on a Leash, one of the most popular songs by long-running nu-metal pioneers Korn. “These premium products are created for all, paying homage to the horror and rock music we love,” singer Jonathan Davis, who created the line in partnership with promoter Danny Wimmer Presents and the non-profit animal rescue Take Me Home, wrote in an Instagram post. The series, announced last week, launches on Oct. 28 but had a preview at a special tent at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento. As the photos below show, the line runs from classy but low-key collars and leashes bearing just the logo, to items that more fully live up to the name, such as severed-hand or eyeball plushies.
The band just completed touring in support of its 14th studio album “Requiem,” so Davis has some time to focus on this new endeavor. At the moment, the products are only available at FreakOnALeash.com — with a portion of the proceeds going to Take Me Home — but he says below, this is just phase one, and the possibilities are endless. The song came out in 1998, so you must have had this idea for quite a while? I really haven’t! It took shape about a year ago. Me and my girl Bea were talking about how much we love our animals and how cool would be to start a pet line of leashes and other dog and cat products, and she said, “How funny would it be if we called it Freak on a Leash?” We went out and found a company to work with that wanted to do it, and the rest was history. Very important question: How many pets do you have, and what are their names? Well,

Angelique Jackson If it seems like Jonathan Majors is everywhere lately, that’s because he has been. Michael B. Jordan shared the first official look of Majors as boxer Damian “Dame” Anderson in “Creed III” on Monday morning, but Variety caught up with the actor over the weekend at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Gala and the Newport Beach Film Festival honors. When the topic of his whirlwind few months came up, Majors summed it up simply: “It’s just the season,” he told Variety’s Angelique Jackson at Newport Beach on Sunday. Well, it certainly has been Majors’ season. The actor was honored at the festival with an Artist of Distinction award for his role in “Devotion,” in which he portrays pioneering fighter pilot Jesse Brown, the Navy’s first Black aviator. Following that part, the actor has a stacked slate of films in the works, including his eagerly-anticipated arrival as Kang the Conqueror in Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” due out in February.

Gregg Goldstein No one ever said filming in New York City was easy, especially during a pandemic. Just ask the showrunners behind Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” or the producer of Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming HBO Max limited series “Full Circle.” “We had an incident yesterday on our set in Queens: a crazy person grabbed a grip by the hair and was trying to take a swing at her. Thank God she got away and he ran off,” “Circle” producer Jonathan Filley said in late September. “And we just had a car rear-end another car, which ran into our electric truck. … There’s a lot of mental instability in the city these days.” This wouldn’t be a shock to “Maisel” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino or her fellow showrunner, Daniel Palladino. who had a hazardous Washington Square Park shoot in spring 2021. “There had been a lot of anti-police protests, and weirdos were encroaching on our set,” Palladino says. “There were no police, and we finally bolted. We had our own security, but there was a group of film students who were keeping an eye on us.” (“And our purses!” Sherman-Palladino chimes in.) “They were chasing some people off, and we realized our de facto security was a bunch of 18-year-olds at NYU.”
