Ponytails, when done right, can upgrade any hair look. The problem, however, is that not everyone has quite enough hair to master that sleek and voluminous pony you see so many celebs flaunting. Now, in a bid to help fine-haired girls cheat a bit of extra volume, Kim Kardashian’s hairstylist Chris Appleton has shared his top tip for creating a thicker pony. “Try this hair hack for any one that wants to make their hair look thicker and upgrade your pony game,” he captions the Instagram Reel.
He uses a model to show how to actually execute the hack, helping viewers to see each stage in good detail. Chris’ method is also thankfully incredibly simple, with just a couple of steps and minimal tools needed. In fact, you’ll only need two hair ties to hand.
He starts by sectioning the hair in two, splitting the bulk in half just above the tops of the model’s ears. He then takes the top section of hair and ties it into a ponytail with an elastic band. Then, he takes the remaining section of hair and ties it up with the first ponytail, incorporating both sections of hair into one pony. The result is a swishy, layered-looking updo. It’s also clear that the hack has almost doubled the visible thickness of the model’s hair, and that it doesn’t fall as limp as it did before he created the double sections.
“Legendary advice! I’ll be using this on all my ponytails,” comments one follower.
