Kilbarchan AAC star Jemma Reekie insists her second shot at Commonwealth Games glory has helped her quickly recover from her 800m hiccup.
The middle-distance star was a medal hope for her preferred distance but missed out on a final spot after being clipped from behind coming down the home straight.
The 24-year-old quickly recovered mentally in time for yesterday’s 1500m heats, with a final spot secured after finishing sixth in a time of 4:16.23 that proved to be enough to earn a spot in tomorrow night’s showpiece.
Reekie said: “I’m not making these heats easy for myself.
“I knew that hopefully I’d get through as a fastest loser and there was just a wall of girls in front of me.
“I’ve managed to get rid of some rust over 1500m, because I’ve not done one in so long.
“I need to remind myself that I’ve got the British record for the mile.
“My confidence in the 1500m isn’t always quite there, but I want to go out there and try to get one of those medals.
“I’m representing Scotland at my first Commonwealth Games and I don’t feel I did myself justice in the 800m at all.
“It was hard for me, but when I knew I had another shot at the 1500m I wanted to take it.
“It made me happy to know I could get the Scotland vest on again.
“Everyone knows I get on that start line to try and win medals and I’d love to get one in the 1500m.”
The women’s 1500m final is set to start at 7.20pm tomorrow night, with coverage live on the BBC.
