Back in 2019, Disney Plus released a show that would go on to be one of the most popular shows in the world and for some restored their faith in the Star Wars franchise. The Mandalorian took the world by storm and would pave the path for many more new Star Wars shows on Disney Plus.

Last December, Lucasfilm made a surprise announcement that they would be developing “The Acolyte,” a brand new “Star Wars” series for Disney+. Set during The High Republic, “The Acolyte” would take place within a new era, hundreds of years before The Skywalker Saga, that is central to a whole new line of novels, video games, and comic books.

Amandla Stenberg will join the Star Wars universe as The Hate U Give actor takes on the lead role of Disney+’s upcoming series The Acolyte, Deadline has confirmed. The project hails from Leslye Headland.

So far, the Disney+ world has only really known one live-action “Star Wars” project and that is “The Mandalorian.” But Lucasfilm has quite a few new series in the works, including the upcoming “Book of Boba Fett,” which is scheduled to arrive before the end of the year.

While Lucasfilm is reportedly having issues trying to figure out their next “Star Wars” feature film after they pumped the breaks on Patty Jenkins‘ project “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron,” these issues don’t exist so much on Disney+. It’s full speed ahead on a lot of projects (ok, minus “Rangers of The Republic“) and the next big release will be “The Book of Boba Fett” debuting on December 29.

When Lucasfilm fired “The Mandalorian” actress Gina Carano in February of this year, it caused some domino effect problems for their projects in development.
