After the success of “Mare of Easttown” and all its Emmy success—16 Emmy nominations and four key wins, including most of the main cast—it became clear that HBO loved Kate Winslet and Winslet loved HBO. While a season two of ‘Easttown’ never materialized—series writer/creator Brad Ingelsby thought the story had been told—that did not deter Winslet from chasing down other projects on the premiere cable channel.

The Oscar-winning actor is leading the upcoming HBO limited series “The Regime,” which was teased during the April 12 Warner Bros. Discovery streaming press event. The lush teaser is filled with mystery and political intrigue, and the official logline doesn’t give too many clues, simply saying that the series “tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel.” The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, Hugh Grant, Danny Webb, David Bamber, Henry Goodman, Stanley Townsend, Louie Mynett, Rory Keenan, Karl Markovics and Pippa Haywood.

BreAnna Bell Apple TV+ has renewed “The Big Door Prize” for a second season, the streamer announced on Wednesday. According to the official description, “The Big Door Prize” follows the story of a small town that changes after a mysterious machine appears in the local general store, promising to reveal each resident’s true life potential. Christopher O’Dowd stars as Dusty Hubbard, a seemingly content, cheerful family man and high school teacher, watches everyone around him reevaluate their life choices and ambitions based on the machine’s printouts which leaves him questioning his own happiness. Though he remains skeptical of the machine, his wife Cass (Gabrielle Dennis) starts to dive into the idea that she could have something bigger in store for her. Up until the arrival of the Morpho machine, the couple lived a seemingly easy and safe life. But all of that changes when the community is forced to take stock of their unfulfilled achievements in pursuit of a better future. The series is based on M.O. Walsh’s novel of the same name.

Naman Ramachandran Kate Winslet and Kit Connor took the top acting prizes at the U.K.’s Royal Television Society Programme Awards on Tuesday. Winslet won leading actor, female, for Channel 4’s “I am Ruth.” Winslet won for playing Ruth, who witnesses her teenage daughter Freya (Winslet’s real-life daughter Mia Threapleton) retreating into herself as she becomes consumed by the pressures of social media. Winslet made a powerful speech, saying: “It has never been a harder time to be a parent, it has never been a more dangerous time to be a child in an online world. So let’s hope that the next Online Safety Bill implements significant and seismic change that will fundamentally help towards securing the safety of all of our children by recognizing and criminalizing harmful content.”

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Kieran Culkin said in a new Esquire digital cover story that Jeremy Strong’s acting process was never affected by various criticisms made about his Method acting, most notably by his “Succession” cast members in an infamous New Yorker profile published in December 2021. “It’s hard for me to actually describe his process, because I don’t really see it,” Culkin told The New Yorker at the time. “He puts himself in a bubble….The way Jeremy put it to me is that, like, you get in the ring, you do the scene, and at the end each actor goes to their corner. I’m, like, This isn’t a battle. This is a dance.” Regarding Strong’s self-isolation process, Culkin added, “That might be something that helps him. I can tell you that it doesn’t help me.” 

Naman Ramachandran Channel 4’s “Derry Girls” and the BBC’s “This is Going to Hurt” and “The Traitors” have won the top honors at the U.K.’s annual Broadcasting Press Guild (BPG) Awards. “Derry Girls” won best comedy and best writer for Lisa McGee and the stars of “This is Going to Hurt,” Ben Whishaw and Ambika Mod won best actor and best actress. The most popular new reality show on British television, “The Traitors,” won best entertainment title. Other BBC shows among the awards were “Sherwood,” which won best drama, “The Real Mo Farah” best documentary mini series and “Frozen Planet II” best documentary.

Andy Samberg voices the title character of washed-up archaeologist Rip Digman.But the “Saturday Night Live” vet can also be seen in the feature-film flesh in the new comedy “Self Reliance,” which premiered at South by Southwest earlier this month, and the upcoming biopic “Lee,” in which flexes his acting chops opposite no less than Oscar winner Kate Winslet.“It’s very dramatic … very different from anything I’ve done before,” Samberg, 44, told The Post about his real-life role as Life magazine WWII photojournalist David Scherman. “But when Winslet calls you, you say yes.”For now, though, Samberg is getting in touch with his inner Indiana Jones on “Digman!” In addition to co-creating the series with fellow “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” alum Neil Campbell, the comedian serves as writer and producer for the first time.“I’ve written on everything I’ve ever worked on pretty much in some way, shape or form,” he said.
