Kate Middleton has become the most popular choice to replace Prince Andrew as Colonel of Grenadier Guards, it has been claimed. Following news that the Duke will be standing trial in a civil case amid to sexual abuse allegations, the Grenadier Guards are reportedly eager to switch out Prince Andrew for Kate in the prestigious position. Kate’s reputation is respectable in the eyes of Grenadier Guards, who are said to be fans of the 40 year old due to the causes she stands for.
If Kate were to accept the role, she would make history by becoming the first woman in the position in 366 years of the regiment’s establishment. Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter. You can sign up at the top of the page.
“From straw polling through the ranks, they would all love it to be Kate,” a senior source in the Grenadier Guards told The Times. "We all admire the way she has fitted in and behaved, she never seems to put a foot wrong. "Everything she has taken on she really commits to and we want someone who will really engage with us." Prince Andrew inherited the position of Colonel of Grenadier Guards from the Duke of Edinburgh in 2017 and has since been stripped of the role, along with several others, in a move made by the Queen recently. The Duke had his military titles and patronages taken away by Her Majesty after it was decided by New York Judge Lewis Kaplan that the 61 year old will face the allegations that he sexually assaulted Virginia Giuffre, when she was 17, in court.
