There were smiles all around as David Walliams' mum Kathleen was thrilled to be sat behind Kate Middleton and Prince William at Wimbledon. David and his mum chatted and laughed with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they took their seats directly behind the royal couple to enjoy a day of tennis in the Royal Box at centre court.
Kathleen seemed overjoyed to be able to meet with William and Kate, and could be seen beaming as she chatted with the Prince. David and Kathleen could be seen applauding as they watched British tennis player Cameron Norrie go up against Belgian David Goffin in the quarter final of the Wimbledon Championship.
In the photos, David, 50, looked dapper in a navy suit, pale blue shirt, and black tie, combined with a pair of sunglasses, while mum Kathleen wore a black and white patterned dress along with a white blazer. After spotting the encounter on TV, fans were baffled that David had landed a seat so close to the Cambridges, with one person writing on Twitter: "David Walliams has treated his Mum to prime seats behind William and Catherine!" As the match between Cameron Norrie and David Goffin kicked off – which Norrie went on to win – Kate and William appeared to be engrossed and were pictured clapping and laughing with each other.
Kate looked beautiful in a blue polka-dot midi dress and wore leopard print sunglasses to shield her eyes from the sun, while Prince William opted for a smart grey suit. David's appearance at the tennis tournament comes after a contentious end to this year's series of Britain's Got Talent, where comic Axel Blake won the top prize and a chance to perform at the Royal Variety Show, despite already seeing success as a comedian.
