Filmmaker James Gray has arguably been trying to avoid himself and his past these last few years, perhaps in order to create something new. A filmmaker who has spent much of his time exploring America and his roots in New York, with humanistic, moral, and family stories about class within the genre of crime (“Little Odessa,” “The Yards,” “We Own The Night”), in the last few years of his filmmaking career, Gray has seemingly gone as far away from New York as possible, into the jungles of the amazon for “The Lost City Of Z” (2014) and into the far reaches of outer space for “Ad Astra” (2019).  And while those films have expanded the palette of his preoccupation, “Ada Astra” in particular tackling ideas of American exceptionalism and its myths, perhaps both films—still centered on class, family, fatherhood and more— demonstrated, as far as he travels, the filmmaker cannot escape himself or his human obsessions and concerns.

An 18-year-old is behind bars on "very serious charges" after allegedly raping, robbing and torturing a college student in south Alabama earlier this month. The Mobile County Sheriff's Office said Elijah Persons knew the woman he is accused of attacking and had planned to meet her in Semmes, which is approximately 20 miles northwest of Mobile, on Tuesday, Oct. 4, according to WALA in Mobile.

Rick Rubin has revealed that he’s working on a new album with The Strokes, having recently completed a recording session with them in Costa Rica.Yesterday (October 12) saw Rubin appear on The Joe Rogan Experience, where he spoke about some of his upcoming projects. An Alabama inmate said prison staff poked him with needles for over an hour as they tried to find a vein during an aborted lethal injection last month. The FBI is tracking a lead in the Gilgo Beach serial killings case to Alabama.  In a Friday Facebook post, the Mobile Police Department said that the FBI is seeking relatives and friends of a long-deceased man named Elijah "Lige" Howell/Howard, who lived from 1927-1963.  Howard lived in Prichard, Alabama, with his wife Carrie and passed away in Mobile in 1963 "with Ms.  Lillie Mae Wiggins Packer," police wrote.

Former Alabama escapee Casey White pleaded not guilty Tuesday at his arraignment on escape and felony murder charges after his alleged accomplice in the jailbreak shot herself in the head rather than face arrest. Vicky White, a former Lauderdale County, Alabama, corrections official, walked Casey White out of jail on April 29, and the duo led investigators on an 11-day manhunt spanning multiple states and involving disguises and multiple cars. The two were not related but were allegedly involved in a jailhouse romance.  Deputies in Indiana recaptured Casey White after a car chase as the alleged lovers tried to evade capture.

A man in Alabama allegedly poured boiling water down his 1-year-old baby's throat while he was out on bond in relation to a domestic violence charge. Eugene Lamont Sneed, 23, was out on bond in relation to a 2020 domestic violence charge when he allegedly poured the boiling hot water down the throat of his daughter on Sunday, who is only 1, according to FOX 17. Niktoria Lett, the mother of the 1-year-old, Royalty, said that the baby was left alone with Sneed, who is the baby's father, on Sunday.

Damon Albarn has revealed that Gorillaz‘ forthcoming collaboration with Stevie Nicks was originally meant to sung by Julian Casablancas.The animated band enlisted the Fleetwood Mac star for the song ‘Oil’, which will appear on their forthcoming eighth album ‘Cracker Island’.Nicks recently spoke in an interview about her experience of becoming “an honorary Gorilla” on the Greg Kurstin-produced track.“I can’t wait till it comes out because I’m so proud of it,” she said.During a new conversation on Apple Music 1, Albarn explained that ‘Oil’ came together “very quickly” as he had previously recorded a demo version in London. Dream Theater have revealed that they are planning on entering the studio to record their sixteenth studio album in late 2023.In a new interview with Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation, guitarist John Petrucci spoke about the band’s plans for 2023 and his solo tour with former bandmate Mike Portnoy. Petrucci released his second solo album ‘Terminal Velocity’ in August.“Dream Theater is gonna continue touring in 2023,” he said when asked about the band’s upcoming plans.
