Donald Glover has spoken candidly about his time working on 30 Rock, and said that Tina Fey told him he was a “diversity hire”.The actor and rapper, also known as Childish Gambino, was speaking during a new interview yesterday (April 4), when he explained how he got his first writing job, working for the US sitcom 30 Rock.According to Glover, he got the role back in 2006, back when he was still a resident assistant in Goddard – living in a dorm in New York City. However, despite performing well in his role, he consistently felt like an outsider.“It definitely didn’t feel like I was supposed to be there,” he told GQ.

Shanghai Film Festival Sets Dates For Return As In-Person Event

The festival was canceled last year, due to the severe restrictions imposed on the city in reaction to a Spring flare-up in the COVID outbreak. The 2023 edition will run June 9-18, 2023, organizers confirmed on Tuesday. They said it would, “open a two-way journey between Chinese films and world films.” The Jinjue (Golden Goblet) Awards competition will this year operate across five categories: main feature film competition, Asian newcomers, documentaries, animation and short films.

A lawsuit accusing Donald Glover of copyright infringement in creating “This Is America,” his 2018 hit as Childish Gambino, has been dismissed, Pitchfork reports. Emelike Wesley Nwosuocha, a rapper who performs as Kidd Wes, told a New York federal court that elements of his 2016 song “Made In America” were used in the creation of Glover’s worldwide hit; the judge dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice to amend, allowing Nwosuocha to refile if he chooses.

2021 lawsuit against Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) over the alleged copyright infringement of ‘This Is America’ has officially been dismissed.Late last week, Manhattan judge Victor Marrero dismissed Kidd West’s (real name Emelike Nwosuocha) lawsuit, saying his 2016 track ‘Made In America’ was “not substantially similar” to Childish Gambino’s hit 2018 track ‘This Is America’, per a Billboard report.Documents from the lawsuit – filed in 2021 – saw Nwosuocha seeking a trial and damages from profit for the alleged infringement across 43 categories, including record sales, downloads, streaming revenue, merchandising and more.“A cursory comparison with the challenged composition reveals that the content of the choruses is entirely different and not substantially similar,” judge Marrero said, also noting that Nwosuocha’s lyrics were deemed a “short, simple, self-aggrandizing proclamation” while Glover’s lyrics were based on “what America means and how it is perceived,” ruling out any similarity based on lyrics.Judge Marrero also pointed out that Nwosuocha had failed to obtain a compositional copyright registration: “Even if Nwosuocha had a copyright registration for the composition of Plaintiff’s Composition, however, dismissal would be warranted here because the elements of Plaintiff’s Composition purportedly infringed upon are insufficiently original to warrant protection, or because they are not substantially similar to the Challenged Composition”.“More could be said on the ways these songs differ, but no more airtime is needed to resolve this case,” judge Victor Marrero added.Nwosuocha’s attorneys, Imran H. A US judge last week dismissed a song theft lawsuit filed against Nickelback, following the earlier recommendation of a magistrate judge who said that the plaintiff in the case had failed to sufficiently back up his theory for how the band had accessed the earlier song.Kirk Johnston, vocalist with the band Snowblind Revival, went legal in 2020, claiming that Nickelback’s 2005 track ‘Rockstar’ ripped off a song he had written with the same title four years earlier.The band then called for the lawsuit to be dismissed on the basis they’d never heard of the earlier song or Snowblind Revival before Johnston went legal.However, magistrate judge Susan Hightower initially said she wasn’t convinced there were grounds for dismissal, though that was assuming Johnston could produce evidence that supported his claim that Nickelback might have had access to his song via their label.But, alas, that evidence was not forthcoming. And as a result Hightower last month recommended the case be dismissed, stating that “Johnston has presented no probative evidence that defendants had a reasonable opportunity to hear plaintiff’s work”.District judge Robert Pitman last week confirmed he was following Hightower’s recommendation.
