EXCLUSIVE: Josh Lucas is set to star opposite Kristen Wiig in Apple TV+ comedy series Mrs. American Pie, executive produced by Laura Dern. Based on Juliet McDaniel’s book, Mrs. American Pie hails from creator Abe Sylvia (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) and director Tate Taylor (Breaking News in Yuba County). Dern also is eyeing a “key role” in the series.
Written by Sylvia and directed by Taylor, Mrs. American Pie is set during the powderkeg era of the early 1970s and follows Maxine Simmons (Wiig) and her attempt to secure her seat at America’s most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society. As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have nots, the series asks the same questions that baffle us today: Who gets a seat at the table, how do you get a seat at the table, and what will you sacrifice to get there?
Lucas will play Douglas, Maxine’s (Wiig) husband.
In addition to Wiig he joins previously announced Allison Janney, Leslie Bibb and Ricky Martin.
The series was developed by Dern and her producing partner Jayme Lemons via their Jaywalker Pictures banner. The novel was optioned through a first-look deal with Boat Rocker, and Katie O’Connell Marsh executive produces for Boat Rocker.
In addition to writing, Sylvia will exec produce and showrun the series. Taylor will direct and exec produce alongside his producing partner John Norris via their Wyolah Entertainment banner. Apple Studios produces.
Lucas is set to star in the recently announced action thriller feature film Blood For Dust alongside Kit Harrington and Scoot McNairy. He wrapped production in December on Paul Struger’s upcoming independent film, The Black Demon, which is slated for a domestic release in February 2023. Lucas is next set to go

Josh Lucas and Jacki Weaver are among ’s many recurring cast members being brought back for season 5, Paramount Network announced on Friday. Lucas will reprise his role as a young version of the widowed ranch patriarch, John Dutton (Kevin Costner), while Weaver will return as Market Equities CEO Caroline Warner after first being introduced in season 4. Additionally, Kylie Rogers and Kyle Red Silverstein will be back as young Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and young Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), presumably meaning the series will continue to explore their on-and-off again dynamic growing up. New cast members for season 5 include Kai Caster (), country singer Lainey Wilson, Lilli Kay () and ’s Dawn Olivieri, who will go from playing Claire Dutton in that prequel series to playing a corporate shark named Sarah Atwood in the current timeline. Caster, meanwhile, has been added as a young cowboy named Rowdy, with Wilson set to play a musician named Abby and Kay joining as Clara Brewer, a new assistant for one of the Duttons. Additionally, the network confirmed that fan-favorites Moses Brings Plenty (Mo) and Wendy Moniz (Gov. Lynelle Perry) have been upped to series regulars.
