Josh Brolin recalls missing out on Batman role: “That would have been a fun deal”

“No Country For Old Men” is easily one of the better modern western thrillers made in the last twenty years and it’s sort of shocking to realize that actor Josh Brolin, who played the morally questionable protagonist of the film, almost didn’t join The Coen Brothers film. How Brolin ended up being cast in the film is a pretty fascinating story as he got help from two genre directors for his audition tape but even that wasn’t enough.

With a nod to the series Western motif, the Abbott Ranch abuts the Tillerson Ranch and the two families, natch, don’t get along too well.

The Amazon Western, metaphysical sci-fi hybrid, “The Outer Range,” is on Prime Video now; it’s fantastic, and obviously, lead actor Josh Brolin is doing the rounds doing press on the feature (read our review here). His appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast has been the gift that keeps giving.

Josh Brolin has revealed he almost was cast as Batman in Zack Snyder’s superhero films and shares his reaction to losing out to Ben Affleck, who portrayed the caped crusader in Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League follow-up.

now-newly-engaged Ben Affleck — in his versions of the superhero franchise.“It would have been the older, the more raspy, for lack of a better word,” Brolin said on MTV’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast recently, describing how his take would have differed from Affleck’s portrayal in 2016’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and 2017’s “Justice League.” He also said that the idea was “interesting” to him and claimed that the choice to instead cast Affleck, 49, wasn’t his decision, but Snyder’s.“Honestly, that would have been a fun deal,” Brolin, 54, added.

Once upon a time, there was a lot of hope for Zack Snyder‘s vision for the DC Universe. “Man of Steel” was primarily well-received, and upcoming plans for a new actor to play Batman in a big-budget crossover film, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” had fans excited for a Marvel-like plan that was about to unfurl.

Josh Brolin could have played Batman in Zack Snyder’s DC films, but instead, the role went to Ben Affleck.
