John Whaite in tears as he thanks Johannes for giving him his confidence

John Whaite praised Strictly Come Dancing winner Rose Ayling-Ellis after the EastEnders actress claimed the coveted glitterball trophy. The Great British Bake Off star, 32, posted a heartfelt tribute to the Strictly Come Dancing 2021 champion and fans of the dancer shared the love on his Instagram snap of them both.

Rose Ayling-Ellis, the actress who this year became the first deaf contestant on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing, is now also the first deaf winner of the British dance competition series, after triumphing in its 19th season.

The Great British Bake Off’s John Whaite and his professional dance partner Johannes Radebe were Strictly Come Dancing’s first same-sex couple, and made it all the way to the competition final. Johannes, 34, first joined Strictly in 2018 and had always been partnered up with female celebs – until this year.

Tonight will see the much-anticipated final of Strictly Come Dancing air on BBC 1.
