Former England international Gabby Agbonlahor says that players are more likely to sign for Aston Villa than Manchester United this summer with Steven Gerrard at the helm.
His comments come after interest from the Red Devils for Villains midfielder John McGinn was shut down by his club, who have no intention of selling the player.
Villa fans have been treated to a January transfer window to remember with Gerrard bringing in Lucas Digne from Everton and Philippe Coutinho, who scored on his debut against United, on loan from Barcelona until the end of the season.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said he believes his former club are now a more attractive proposition than United with big question marks over who will be at the Old Trafford helm this summer.
He said: “I believe that come the summer what Aston Villa are going to be looking at, you’d rather sign for Aston Villa than Manchester United this summer.
“I think Manchester United are going down and Aston Villa are on the way up.”
He added: “Who’s going to be the Manchester United manager?
"Look at the players who are running their contracts down, players want out of Manchester United at the moment, players want to come to Aston Villa at the moment, like Coutinho.
“John McGinn should stay at Aston Villa and don’t even think about going to Manchester United.”
Villa’s draw on Saturday came after they lost 1-0 to United in the Third Round of the FA Cup five days earlier.
Ralf Rangnick’s men are five points off fourth-placed Arsenal in the Premier League table with two games in hand.
Villa, 13th, sit nine points behind United in seventh, and thus qualification for Europe, having played the same number of matches.
