John Lewis says 80,000 workers will not receive a bonus next year due to £635m loss

Retail giant John Lewis has confirmed its 80,000 employees will not receive a bonus next year after reporting a half year loss of more than £635million.

On Thursday, the chain said the prized incentive - which is also paid to Waitrose employees - will be scrapped in 2021. The decision marks the first time in a century that workers at the employee-owned business will not receive a pay-out, which was last axed after in 1948 in the aftermath of the Second World War and remained at zero until 1953.
