Jason Cummings is loving life in Australia but admits the only abuse he’s had has been from someone in a Celtic strip.
The former Hibs and Rangers striker swapped Dundee for Down Under nearly 18 months ago and hasn’t looked back. Cummings has been banging in the goals for Central Coast mariners and switched nationality to Australia, which resulted in a call up to the Socceroos squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
His form has led to interest in his services from overseas. Indian big spenders Mohun Bagan have offered to make him the third highest paid player in the country if he was to make the move. But the former Hearts youngster says he is the happiest he’s ever been, both on and off the pitch, and sees no reason to up sticks while he has a good thing going after enduring a “hostile” time of it back home.
“I’m happy as I’ve ever been in my life and as a player. Over here it’s refreshing for me. I go out for food or on a night out and no one bothers you.
“The only time I’ve been abused at the game it was some guy wearing a CELTIC top. Back in Scotland it’s just relentless. It’s hostile.
“If you have a bad game you’re going to get hammered on social media. You get beat you need stay in for a few days or you get hammered for going out.
“But over here no one’s that affected. I’ve become a proper Aussie, I’ve embraced it. I wasn’t appreciated in Scotland as much as I am here.”
Cummings has no regrets about ditching the dark blue for green and gold. And he jokingly suggested he’d be a risk of a “jib in the mouth” if he was to return to Scotland.
He told the Players Pd with james Dodd: “Obviously, the main reason was I wasn’t getting picked for Scotland.
“It made it easier to pick Australia. It was a chance to play at the World Cup.
