England forward Jarrod Bowen has revealed how he used to follow Manchester United as a youngster because of his inspiration David Beckham.
The West Ham star was handed his international debut in the Three Lions' 1-0 loss to Hungary on Saturday. The 25-year-old enjoyed a fantastic season with the Hammers, scoring 18 times as his club reached the semi-finals of the Europa League.
Bowen has shown his versatility for West Ham, leading the line on several occasions this season but is often found playing on the flanks. It may be no surprise, then, that he named England and United legend Beckham as his idol.

Speaking to England’s YouTube channel, Bowen explained how he used to support United as a youngster, namely because of the then-Three Lions captain. He said: “When I got the call up there was that picture of me with the mohawk and I think it was a fake England top.
“It was Beckham growing up so I had the red mohawk. I don’t know why it was red, I don’t think he ever dyed his hair red, but he had the mohawk, the number seven so he was the one growing up.
“I followed Man United a bit growing up as well but I think I more followed him because I thought he was cool. Him growing up, me supporting Man United trying to copy him with that picture and, as soon as I got sent, it I knew it was going out.”
