Janelle Monáe to Be Honored as Trailblazer at Outfest Legacy Awards

Daniel Craig had his number one cheerleader on-hand for support at the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery premiere with his wife Rachel Weisz making a low-key appearance. It was a big night for the former James Bond actor who debuted the highly-anticipated sequel to Rian Johnson’s critically acclaimed 2019 crime mystery as the closing event for this year’s BFI London Film Festival.  Daniel, 54, hit the red carpet solo, looking smart in a 007-worthy tuxedo, before being joined by the rest of his Glass Onion co-stars including actress and singer Janelle Monae and director Rian.

Knives Out franchise, has confirmed that lead character detective Benoit Blanc – played by Daniel Craig – is gay.Per Insider, Johnson confirmed the news during a recent press conference at London Film Festival, where he appeared to promote the impending Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion. Insider asked Johnson about Blanc’s sexuality, referencing a particular scene that indicates the character lives with a man.Responding to whether that means he’s queer, Johnson replied: “Yes, he obviously is.” Referring to the as-yet-unknown actor who plays Blanc’s lover, the director added that “there’s nobody in the world I can imagine in bringing me more joy for Benoit Blanc to be with”.Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery – the second film in the Knives Out franchise, following the 2019 original – sees Craig reprise his role as Blanc, with the detective travelling to Greece to solve his latest case.

Janelle Monae is opening up about her acting career and why she wants to emulate Johnny Depp‘s career.

Ella Kemp Guest Contributor Janelle Monáe reflected on her multifaceted career at a Screen Talk hosted by BFI London Film Festival programmer Grace Barber-Plentie. The conversation, which took place ahead of the European premiere of “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” included the musician-actor citing Johnny Depp’s career as one she’d like to emulate given the “transformative” characters he has played. Monáe stressed that it was only Depp’s acting career that she admired, and not Depp as a person. “When I think about careers, this person’s life as an actor, only… Johnny Depp has a very badass career,” Monae said, citing Willy Wonka and Sweeney Todd as “dramatic roles” she aspires to play in her own work. “Whatever the Janelle Monáe version of them is, maybe it’s something even better, I want to be able to do those transformative characters that people are dressing up as for Halloween.”

Rian Johnson’s murder-mystery sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will receive a theatrical UK release after Netflix struck deals with Vue International and Cineworld.

Angelique Jackson Rian Johnson’s highly-anticipated “Knives Out” sequel will first debut in theaters after all. While Netflix previously teased that “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” would play “in select theaters on a to-be-announced date,” the streamer has announced that the movie will hit theaters for a “special sneak peek preview” a full month before it launches on the platform. Following the highly-anticipated film’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it launched to rave reviews, Netflix has announced that “Glass Onion” will get a one-week only theatrical release over Thanksgiving with the film playing exclusively in theaters from Nov. 23-29.

Michaela Zee editor Miami Dade College’s Miami Film Festival GEMS has announced its line-up for its ninth annual event, with “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” set to open the festival on Nov. 3. The “Knives Out” sequel follows Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) as he travels to Greece to solve another murder mystery. Along with Craig, the cast includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson and Dave Baustista. Miami Film Festival will honor the ensemble cast of “Glass Onion” with the inaugural Ensemble Award. Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” will close out the festival on Nov. 10, with star Paul Dano virtually receiving the Precious Gem Award.

The Savannah College of Art and Design celebrates 25 years with the 25th annual SCAD Savannah Film Festival, taking place in person Oct. 22–29. Redmayne will receive the Virtuoso Award for “The Good Nurse,” Monáe will be presented with the Spotlight Award for “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” Jonathan Majors with the Spotlight Award for “Devotion” and Sadie Sink with the Rising Star Award for “The Whale.” Among the other honorees, Kerry Condon is set to receive the Distinguished Performance Award for “The Banshees of Inisherin,” JD Dillard with the Rising Star Director Award for “Devotion,” Nicholas Hoult with the Vanguard Award for “The Menu,” Jeremy Pope with the Distinguished Performance Award for “The Inspection.” Henry Selick is being honored with the Outstanding Achievement in Animation Award for “Wendell and Wild.” Previously announced honorees include Colson Baker (Machine Gun Kelly) who will receive the Discovery Award for “Taurus” and Ron Howard who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in Directing for “Thirteen Lives.”

K.J. Yossman Jennifer Lawrence will participate in the BFI’s series of Screen Talks at the London Film Festival next month.

Woman In Film, Los Angeles said Thursday that that She Said producer Dede Gardner, star Carey Mulligan and New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey will be honored next month at the 2022 WIF Honors. They join a recipient list that already includes the bestowing the group’s Crystal Awards to Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson, The Woman King director Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Don’t Worry Darling writer and director Katie Silberman and Olivia Wilde, respectively.

EJ Panaligan editor Janelle Monáe is set to be honored with the Trailblazer Award at the 2022 Outfest Legacy Awards. The special salute will be presented at Outfrest’s annual gala, held at Paramount Studios on Sat., Oct. 22, which marks the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization’s 40th anniversary. The Trailblazer Award, presented by IMDb, recognizes Monáe’s role as an artist who has consistently shown her support for the LGBTQ+ community at large through her Grammy-nominated music and critically acclaimed acting. Monáe’s latest starring role will be seen in Netflix’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” set for release in December.
